Translate as you type - Android (2024)

You can translate text into a different language while typing on Gboard.

Important:Some of these steps work only onAndroid 7.0 and up. Learn how to check your Android version. See which languages can be translated.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, install Gboard.
  2. Open any app that you can type with, like Gmail or Keep.
  3. Tap an area where you can enter text.
  4. At the top of the keyboard, tap Open features menu Translate as you type - Android (1).
  5. Tap Translate Translate as you type - Android (2).
  6. Pick the language to translate from.
  7. Pick the language to translate into.
  8. Enter your text. You'll get a preview as you type. You can tap the preview to see variations of the translation.
  9. To use the translation, tap Select Translate as you type - Android (3).

Tip: To close the window, tap Close features menu Translate as you type - Android (4).
