Google services are available in all Google languages. You can change the display language to your preferred language at any time.

These instructions are to change your preferred language used in Google services on the web only. To change the preferred language for your mobile apps, update the language settings on your device.

Change your web language settings

  1. On your Android device, tap Settings Change your language on the web - Android (1) Change your language on the web - Android (2) Google Change your language on the web - Android (3) Manage your Google Account.
  2. At the top, tap Personal info.
  3. Scroll to "General preferences for the web."
  4. Tap Language Change your language on the web - Android (4) Edit Change your language on the web - Android (5).
  5. Search for and select your preferred language.
  6. At the bottom, tap Select.
  7. If you understand multiple languages, tap + Add another language.

Change the language on your Android device

  1. On your Android device, tap Settings Change your language on the web - Android (6).
  2. Tap System Change your language on the web - Android (7) Languages & input Change your language on the web - Android (8) Languages.
    • If you can’t find "System," then under "Personal," tap Languages & input Change your language on the web - Android (9) Languages.​
  3. Tap Add a language Change your language on the web - Android (10) and choose the language that you want to use.
  4. Drag your language to the top of the list.

How to use Google automatically added languages

Google automatically adds languages that you frequently use in Google services. When Google adds a language, it’s labeled as Added for you Change your language on the web - Android (11).

  1. On your Android device, tap Settings Change your language on the web - Android (12).
  2. Tap System Change your language on the web - Android (13) Languages & input Change your language on the web - Android (14) Languages.
  3. To confirm a language that was added for you, select Save.
  4. To remove a language added by Google, select Delete Change your language on the web - Android (15).

To stop Google from automatically adding languages, turn off Automatically add languages.

How Google uses your language settings

Google uses your language settings to make Google services more useful. When you specify your language, you help us show your content and results in one or more of your preferred languages, and provide more relevant, tailored content you might be interested in, like ads.

Fix problems with changing language

To check your Google Account language, open your Google Account. You'llfind the language you selected.

  • The language change didn't work: If your Google Account doesn't match the language you selected, clear your browser's cache and cookies and set the language again.
    Tip: Deleting cookies also removes your saved settings for other sites you've visited.
  • Your language isn't listed: We work to support more languages for our products. If you choose a primary language that isn't available, we may ask you to select an alternate language. If an alternate language is needed, in the Language section of your Google Account, you can find your alternate language listed beneath your primary language. You can select it to change it.
  • I use a mobile device: Changes to your preferred language are reflected on the web. To change the preferred language for mobile apps, update the language settings on your device.
