We use OneDrive to connect all of our files to our Sharepoint server. These files sync with each other. If OneDrive goes down or disconnects, we've lost files, so we depend on OneDrive to always be up and running, with no crashes or down time.

• My OneDrive will disconnect itself after I do a hard reboot over the weekend

• My OneDrive will completely disappear from view randomly

• After a hard reboot, most often I'll have to go into my applications folder to find the OneDrive app, then open and wait for it to sign in and sync

OneDrive is very well-suited to handle synced files with an online server. On the same token, if/when OneDrive randomly disconnects this causes an issue.

OneDrive is used in our organization as the primary online document management and cloud storage platform. It is used widely within all areas of business in integration product and project work streams, connecting an online experience for document review and revision, a storage management system for materials like online media and artifacts and marketing document repository to name a few. The platform cuts down on paper copies around the enterprise and offers a secure platform for users to easily learn and use.

I'll start with what I would not use OneDrive for! I would not use it as a primary source for code repository, there are other more robust tools out there that can help you with storing and making available code repos. Where I would use OneDrive is in a platform for managing files, and with that I mean any file that can be saved offline and access a OneDrive access point, share, or mount. This could be personal, business, or data from a system that is saved in a standard file format. The OneDrive platform is great for documents collaboration as well, with the ability to allow for share and links to be provided to for easy access and collaboration. I would also recommend if you are someone who likes to use cloud services and rely less and less on offline storage. OneDrive excels in this area!

OneDrive is our preferred individual cloud storage platform. Students use it for class projects and collaboration, Faculty and staff use it for backup and syncing files across multiple devices. It's great that we have it as part of our O365 subscription, so it is easily available and supportable for all users.

Pros and Cons

• Sync - OneDrive does a great job having files available across all devices, particularly the on-demand sync available on Win10 and newer.

• Backup - I've used file versions and folder versions multiple times to revert to an older copy or undo an accidental deletion.

• Processing changes - This can take quite a while, particularly when a large number of files have changed or after a reboot.

• Syncing multiple accounts - It's possible, but not as intuitive as some other cloud storage apps.

Likelihood to Recommend

OneDrive is great to make sure that all your work files are available everywhere, even on mobile. It's also helpful when your work computer is refreshed, within 5 minutes I have all my files available again! It's less helpful for sharing files that don't need to be sent as-is, video files, in particular, can be a problem because it will try to play them but at the end of the day, it's not a streaming platform.

Microsoft OneDrive is hands down the worst piece of software I have ever used in my life. Unbelievably terrible and inconsistent UI of the control panel, constant issues with files syncing or not syncing when they should or should not, you never knowing if OneDrive is doing something in the background or not, the laughable "Personal Vault" with no secondary security option, the jokes never end. Why is the UI of the control panel and the window to Choose Folders sync completely different, as in 1995 v 2010 different? Why is it NOT POSSIBLE to resize the Choose Folders window so you are not forced to browse your file tree in a stupidly tiny window? Why does clicking a folder in your file tree in the Choose Folders window freeze OneDrive for dozens of seconds each time? Why does clicking OK in the Choose Folder NOT save your options you are forced to do this several times to add one tiny folder? Why does OneDrive sync random half of files in a fully selected folder and say All files are synced? Why doesn't OneDrive ACTUALLY save the files on your disk when you select the "Make these files ALWAYS available on this PC"? I pity the day I decided to go for OneDrive and I will be moving away from it soon.

We utilize Onedrive, which is part of the Microsoft 365 package, to fully back all of the personal data upon every user's computer and to share papers with customers online in a way that allows many people to work on a word or excel project at the same time. Providing each customer with a complimentary terabyte of storage is a great method to ensure that everyone else's personal data have always been safeguarded in the clouds.

By controlling all of your institution's digital products, OneDrive will make your life much easier. Instead of spending time and resources on alternative collaborative tools, I propose that you use OneDrive. Its Android application is quite beneficial. Its uploading speed will certainly entice you.

I use it for both personal and professional needs. In the professional area I use it mostly for communication and collaborative work. It allows to work in a same project without the need of being in the same location, while accessing different resources no matter the type of file: spreadsheets, word documents, or slide presentations. The different synchronization tools allows to always have access to files and keep them updated, without worrying about losing unsaved work or being unable to access files.

OneDrive is used by my entire organization and has been for at least four years. It was an additional Microsoft product that came with an organization-wide email upgrade and was subsequently made available to everyone. My department uses it regularly as we frequently work remotely while traveling on business, so it provides access to necessary documents/files.

OneDrive is very useful for organizations with people located in different buildings and/or frequent travelers, as it provides virtual access to documents and files. My team uses it to share/host working documents among those of us who travel 20-40 percent of the time, meaning we no longer have to email documents back and forth but can instead access them from the cloud.

I use OneDrive as little as possible because, in my opinion, they have awful syncing management. I mainly use it when I need to transfer files between PCs. I feel that we generally have far better alternatives for most use cases.

• No access to settings while not syncing. This means you can't carefully pick which folders sync prior to actually starting the syncing. This is purely nonsensical.

• If you wish to hold syncing while accessing settings, the best you can do is limit the speed to 1kb/per second, but that will still lock folders that Onedrive decides to start syncing.

• Folder syncing control hell when choosing folders to sync: 'Sorry, your changes couldn't be saved', error messages that have terrible explanations for why Onedrive disobeys requests to omit incoming files from your PC from syncing up.

• Terrible UI layout and disregard for cloud-based design convention. Settings are hidden in weird places that require google results when trained professionals would usually find familiar settings.

When moving files around that are needed but don't seem to have a permanent home anywhere, Onedrive can be useful. Other than that, I avoid OneDrive for not only reasons of moral but also for more productive use of company time. Honestly, in my opinion, Onedrive does not stack up to the industry standard that Dropbox has created. I personally feel that Microsoft has more than enough time, money, and funding to bring their game up to a professional standard, and let's hope they care enough to fix the issues I've outlined.

My organization uses OneDrive as a cloud sharing service, and it's a fresh new tool. Documents are shared for collaboration, work flows are shared for input, and HR tracking is shared. It's being utilized throughout the organization, and it's steadily gaining traction from different departments. Having a central location to store files that are only available to individuals you invite is beneficial.

Collaborating on the go has become the standard, and OneDrive is a useful tool for people who need to be on the go but don't want to carry around a laptop with them that can share and edit documents from different devices. OneDrive has the ability to boost an individual's or a team's productivity. Users may work from home or at the beach with online Office products since they are no longer constrained by their equipment.

I use onedrive extensively to store and share files across team of 50+ engineers. I have been long term user of onedrive and found it to be very reliable with no down time in so far experience. In the team I encourage the members to keep all the work on onedrive all time and share with relevant members so that they can pickup and use without avoid any dependency on the person to be available all time and laptop dependency. Also during the last 2 years this proved to be very useful. The permission settings for file or folder level are great and quick preview all are useful. The app support both on mobile and desktop either mac/windows is great. And special mention for the new feature which got added recently to only show file names and download only on demand is great.

Onedrive's reliable cloud storage features are invaluable for sharing documents and files across team members. The app support and updates are all great and works well on multiple OS and mobile platforms. With office 365 the bundled storage of 1TB is more than sufficient for major uses and I can manage without spending much on high configuration laptops with larger SSDs.

It [OneDrive] is also very easy to comment and assign a task on it. It is also very effective to receive notifications by e-mail.

I have used One Drive in all three jobs I've had recently. When I worked at the Basilica of Saint John, we used One Drive for our shared documents folder. He helped everyone add data to our offering excel sheet. Very convenient for collaborative work. I know use it at ERI to back up some Word Files.

OneDrive is extremely well suited for internal use. It's an easy product to utilize across teams and departments within an organization to share the most up-to-date information. It is a great information-sharing space. Syncing is quick and easy so that everyone has the most current information. It's easy to navigate and very intuitive, as part of the Microsoft suite. It is an appropriate cloud-based application to share private data and all other collaborative documentation for a company.

We use Onedrive as part of the Office 365 suite to backup all the personal files at each users workstation, as well as share documents online with clients, in a way where multiple people can edit a word or excel document at the same time. Getting a free terabyte of storage for each user is really handy in making sure everyones personal files are always safe in the cloud.

• Large file support is not allowed above 15gb files, which for some email backup files might not be enough.

OneDrive is well suited for smaller companies where people save most of their files on their local computers, but still need a backup solution to protect themselves from losing their files. OneDrive is not a great solution if you are not constantly connected to the internet and can keep any files you are sharing with others in sync all the time.

OneDrive provides us the mobility and flexibility we require to collaborate effectively, work on documents and other business materials, store and share work files whether at home or while in the office. OneDrive protects every single file we store inside the system and grants us total control over permissions to each user.

Best suited for cloud storage of documents and data loss prevention with its highly reliable security protocols. The free plan is not the best for storing and working on tons of files. They have very affordable rates so users can upgrade to higher plans whenever they require more storage space.

All departments in our company use OneDrive. We have easy access to files while working remotely as well as in the office. It's a time-saver for us! It is easy to organize, use, move, rename and delete files. MS OneDrive allows us to manage my media content more efficiently.

OneDrive is perfect for backing up data, sharing files among team members, its weak point is quite average speed of processing some data in the interface for example I recently encountered a significant delay while opening project documentation

• To have a sync in all the documents even when offline.

• There can be backup as well as protection of the files wherein one can easily recover from that of any accidental deletes or that of the malicious attacks.

• User documentation could be an area of improvement, as the user tries the trial and error method to learn.

We are a small starup company that uses OneDrive for backup of data and documents. OneDrive is used by all of us (2) employees. OneDrive solves easy sharing and data security for us, and frees up local storage space. We trust Microsoft as they are the basis for most of our software.

• Cost is built into our Microsoft subscription, and the overall cost is very low.

• It provides version history.

• It warns us of possible mistakes during file deletions.

• We have only one beef with OneDrive - it doesn't allow renaming of the OneDrive folders, so all of our OneDrive folders are named OneDrive which can get confusing until you label a folder at the top to identify which OneDrive you are in.

For a low cost, easy to use backup system, OneDrive is outstanding. It has a very low cost per terabyte of storage, and is easy use from the outset. For a small business or office, it is ideal as files can be easily shared (or not) between the employees. I cannot think of a situation where it is not appropriate...except if you have poor or expensive internet connectivity in which case the constant data transfers and updating could become problematic.

It is being used by both the whole organization and also on the department level. All users in the organization have a license for this. In addition to having the OneDrive for Business, some users also have/are using OneDrive for Individuals, which is related to the personal OneDrive service. For OneDrive for Business specifically, it is integrated with Office 365, which is the main Office software suite being used across the whole organization. It addresses the business problem of having a solid cloud backup storage solution, that integrates with Office 365, and one that can seamlessly share files both internally in an organization, and also externally. It also addresses the business problem of having a storage solution with has a high level of security built in.

Pros and Cons

• One thing it does well is it integrates seamlessly with Office 365 applications, such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc. It is easy for users to open/modify/save documents from OneDrive within the Office 365 applications, without having to actually open that program in another window.

• It enables users to be able to securely share files both internally within the organization and those outside of the organization.

• The Sync function needs to be a little easier to use and understand. On the users part, it is imperative that they are trained into how this function works, or how best to use it. It could be confusing, especially at first glance.

• Another improvement can be made in the file size limits across the various ways of uploading files. In the most common scenario with business users using a work or school account, the file size limit is only 15gb.

It is well suited for environments that already are using the Office 365 suite of applications across the whole organization, as it integrates very well across those different appplications. It is less suited for organizations that are looking for a very low cost, or no cost, cloud storage solution, as this may not be for them. Since Office 365, and therefore OneDrive, is subscription based, there is an ongoing monthly or yearly cost of the software. Also, OneDrive would be less ideal in environments that are looking for a very simple to use storage solution, as opposed to having one with more features such as OneDrive.

I use OneDrive for almost all my work files. Files I create and files I receive from my clients. The use of OneDrive allows me access to those files from multiple devices so if I am out with a client I can still have access to whatever I store in OneDrive.

OneDrive has worked well for me by having a secure online storage location for files that are not super sensitive. Once it is configured it is as easy as saving a file to know that it is in your OneDrive folder(s).
I would not store any sensitive data in OneDrive.

OneDrive used to be my go-to product for cloud storage. Seamless integration with Office 365 and 1TB with Office365 subscription, it was perfect. Then came "Files-on-Demand" which was a disaster. At first, simply very slow access waiting for the file to download, even if you had just created and saved the file 3 seconds before. Then came the file corruption where files suddenly became unreadable and could not be opened or recovered. I tried everything, including many hours researching on internet and with MS Tech support. I finally decided today to end the struggle, and go to an alternative product, IDrive. I now have a 1TB harddrive so I really just need my files backed up to the cloud for backup, security and maybe the occasional web access.
