Taxis - Good to Know
On Menorca there are NO private taxi companies like on the UK. No currently authorised Uber or Cabify services on Menorca - only officially licensed Taxis restricted to PICKUPs in a particular region. Taxis on Menorca are all painted white and use meters which are visible. Meter shows a min. price at start plus the rate ( = 'Tarifa' day or night+fiestas ) based on time of day. At Menorca Airport all fares are posted on a column at main arrivals baggage hall exit near the Tourist Information Office. The fares are regulated each each year ( published may'ish ) but usually increase only by a little.
By law and checked by police with on the spot fines, all small children are required to sit in the rear in a suitable seat and wear a seat belt at all times. No sitting on laps!! Taxi drivers may also object because of the law BUT YOU are liable for any fines NOT taxis.You cannot prebook baby/child seats with Airport Taxis - consider Transfers.
Children's Seats from Home? You need to tell the driver and it is your responsibility to ensure correct/safe fitting thereof.
Taxis are licensed for FOUR passengers only by LAW - so you will need 2 or more for larger groups or consider Transfers from Menorca Airport
Fares are regulated based on distance. Check price before starting off. Your driver should be able to give a good idea.
Don't let Taxis wait too long while you get out to do something as there is a big waiting fee ( 17+ Eur )

Taxis can be requested by telephone - known locally as 'Radio Taxi' . There is normally a supplement for this ( see price tables ) - Tel. ( +34 971367111 or +34 971482222) which connects you to english speaking service . You state your location and where to be picked up from.
Tip Note Radio Taxi is routed to a call centre outside Menorca. The people do not know Menorca ! so be sure of your location / destination first and they will not really know the prices.

Smartphone booking 1 Taxi App can be a bit hit and miss. Don't rely on the Taxi location tracking!
However you book remember Taxis can only pickup in their licenced area so if it's busy locally you may have to wait.

What is best? For distances of upto 20 km from Mahon airport Mon-Fri and max 4 passengers ( maximum includes children of any age) Taxis are often the best choice ( price and speed ) when available. If you need certainty require child seats or you might need two taxis consider a pre-booked private Transfer
Taxi Prices
Taxi fares are strictly regulated with standard minimum charges plus a price per kilometer measured by a meter. Taxi rates increase slightly after 22:00 and from 14:00 on Saturdays and Public Holidays.
Journeys crossing a boundary into another operating area may incur an extra charge.

2023 Taxi fares (tariffas) apply island wide and are strictly regulated using meters . Taxi prices can be quite complex with daytime/nightime/public holidays rates and supplements eg Airport pick/drop off .
06:00 to 21:00 a public taxi from Menorca airport to is € MAX 4 ( NOTE any child regardless of age = 1 passenger )
Taxi rates increase slightly after 21:00 and from 14:00 on Saturdays and Public Holidays (Fiestas).
