Face Mask Face Off! GlamGlow vs The Body Shop Charcoal Masks - ricci alexis (2024)

I have been obsessed with face masks lately. So much so that some of my friends and I text each other nightly to see which mask everyone is using…we have even dubbed ourselves the #ThreeMasketeers HA!!

While we all have completely different skin tones one thing that we can agree on is the need for a good charcoal mask. Charcoal masks are amazing at purifying your skin by drawing out the toxins, chemicals, dirt and other micro particles to the surface of your skin. Charcoal masks are also good at fighting acne and that is freaking awesome because who has time for #AdultAcne ?? Not me!!

Two of my favorite charcoal masks are the cult favorite GlamGlow SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment and The Body Shop’s Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask. Since these two are my favorites I thought I would share a little bit about each and tell you which one I like best. So today we are having a face mask face off!! GlamGlow vs The Body Shop!!

Ok, so first things first let’s talk about packaging, size and price. Going on looks alone I would choose the GlamGlow mask. I love the silver and white of the packaging, it looks sleek and professional. I also love the glass Body Shop package but the GlamGlow just stands out more to me. Size wise you an see that the Body Shop make comes with more product. It weighs in at 3oz while GlamGlow’s largest jar only comes in a 1.2oz. The GlamGlow is also much pricer at $69/1.2oz vs Body Shop’s $28/3oz.

So basically going on looks alone I love the look of the GlamGlow but the Body Shop mask wins both size and price.

Next up, and one of the most important features to me is smell. Smell wise I like The Body Shop mask better. It has a more minty/earthy smell while the GlamGlow mask just smells like dirty toothpaste? Is that even a thing?? Who knows. The Body Shop mask isa vegan mask made with tea tree oil and green tea leaves so that accounts for the minty/earthy smell and the GlamGlow has ingredients I can’t even pronounce. HA!!

So smell wise the Body Shop mask wins hands down!

Now lets talk texture. The GlamGlow mask definitely has a smoother texture than The Body Shop. The Body Shop’s mask actually contains bits of tea leaves so it is more textured which I found really interesting. The GlamGlow mask dried out evenly and was easy to wipe clean but because of the Body Shop’s textured consistency it dried differently with the skin under the leaf chunks not fully drying sometimes. So it really depends on what kind of a texture person you are as to whether or not this is a deal breaker for you.

Personally I love the texture and being able to see what my mask is made of so in this category the Body Shop mask was the winner for me.

Last, but certainly not least I am going to talk about which mask worked better? Now obviously this is completely my opinion and you may have a different one but this is what I think. After using both masks a few times I can honestly say that I loved the way my face felt after using The Body Shop’s charcoal mask more than I liked GlamGlow’s SUPERMUD. My skin just felt tighter and my pores definitely looked smaller. I also felt like I could go longer in between masks when using it.

So my overall pick for this Face Mask Face Off is The Body Shop’s Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask. In my opinion it beat out GlamGlow’s SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment in size, price, smell, texture and usefulness. YAY Body Shop!! Congrats!!

So even though GlamGlow didn’t win this face mask face off I still love the line. I have tried a few other masks of theirs that I LOVE LOVE LOVE just maybe not this one as much as I used to. Will I still buy it? Maybe not since I found a cheaper option that works better (in my opinion). But you do you and if you have this mask and it works for you then use it! And maybe give The Body Shop’s mask a try one day!
