DIY Dry Shampoo Tutorial

For the DIY dry shampoo recipe for blondes, the base of the formula is cornstarch. Constarch is a great ingredient for absorbinb excess oils from your roots of your hair. This is mixed with a teaspoon of cinnamon, which offers great anti-bacterial and healing properties, not to mention a refreshing essence that stimulates your scalp.

Simply add these 2 dry ingredients to a mixing bowl and stir to combine. Finish by adding three-to-five drops of the scented essential oil of your choice and giving the mixture a stir. This makes sure your hair smells nice and fresh at every application. So easy right?

Now we’ll move onto the dry shampoo for dark hair! This recipe follows the same steps as the formula for blondes, but adds one extra ingredient to the mix. Unsweetened cocoa powder helps masks the stark white cornstarch base so that it doesn’t come across looking dusty or chalky on darker hair tones. Plus, it’s full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that are great for your scalp and hair.

And that’s it! Really, it’s almost an effortless beauty DIY and will be a time saver for washing your hair and getting ready.

You’ll want to make sure to tore your dry shampoo in an airtight container and keep it close to your hair and makeup kit so that you can make it a seamless part of your morning beauty routine.

1. Dip your makeup brush into your dry shampoo mixture. Tap off any excess product on the edge of your container. With your brush, apply the dry shampoo to the roots and in the areas that tend to get oily, like your bangs and hair part.

Focus mostly on the roots, but if the rest of your hair needs freshening up, add a little more down the strands toward the tips. Make sure not don’t rub your dry shampoo into your scalp, where it can accumulate and make it itch.

2. Brush your hair from root-to-tip to help distribute and blend in the dry shampoo.

3. Let it settle in — wait a few minutes to let the dry shampoo absorb the oil from your hair and then style as usual.

When you’re in a rush, this 5 minute application and style versus a shower, shampoo and blow dry will save you time, save your hair from excess damage from washing and heat styling.
