We made the mistake as first time parents of sharing our baby name before he’s here. We found boy names to be extremely difficult to find one we enjoyed- what we believe we want is Ronan. What are your thoughts on this name? We have received such bad grimaces and straight up I don’t like it’s from family once it was said it’s making me rethink everything. 35 weeks and stressing

I personally love the name Ronan. It’s such a strong name. People are mean and feel the need to throw their opinion around when honestly their opinion doesn’t matter. He is YOUR son and if you love this name then ignore everyone else and do what you feel is right!
We have always been very supported with our name choices. (Baby #3 on the way) but we are keeping ours close to the vest this go around because of exactly this. I don’t want others opinions.

Absolutely love the name Ronan. It’s in my top boy names atm
Idk what they could dislike about it! It’s easy to say and spell, strong and handsome

I know a Ronan. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. I like it. I'm seeing this name more and more lately over the years for sure! Just do not worry or stress too much. Ignore the negativity. This baby is you and your partners to name and there's nothing wrong with Ronan to me! We can't impress or please everyone 🤣

There are times where friends/family should step in to say how horrible a name is…
…but this is definitely NOT one of those times. Ronan is a handsome name, it’s a legitimate name, you’re using it correctly and it’s spelled correctly.
There is no reason for them not to like it. It’s a great name; just not their style.

@GreenJollyGiant,
this. These posts always go one of two ways, the name is something like “Whiskey” and the family is right, or it’s a perfectly normal name and the family is just being a jerk. This is the latter.

@ainle,
I’ve begun to hate the word unique. It’s not descriptive enough! It could be a tragydeigh or a beautifully rare name. Case in point - I wouldn’t consider Ronan unique…it’s just uncommon for this generation.

@GreenJollyGiant,
totally. “Oh no one has my sons name it’s so unique” well that’s because you butchered the spelling lol I think Ronan is getting more familiar but I definitely wouldn’t call it common. I can see why older generations would think it’s different tho.
Personally I’m a Stargate fan so alls I think of is Ronon Dex, but let’s be real Jason Momoa is not a bad association to have.

I have had so many Ronans come and go throughout my teaching career. I currently have one in my class right now. I’ve always liked that name.

 I love the name Ronan & think it’s a great option! Plus it’s quite international too (ie. works well in many languages & cultures.) If it’s your favourite, go for it! If someone doesn’t like it, then they needn’t use it for their own kid.
