Satan is the main antagonist of the 2014 movie As Above So Below. Hell in this movie is heavily inspired by its depiction in Dante's Inferno. Although he only appears a few times in the film, it's very likely that his origins are the same as in that story and that he is a fallen angel.
Description[]
He lurks in the Hell, which is connected to the Paris Catacombs, more specifically in the Ninth Circle. In the movie, he sits in a rocking chair and wears a black robe. His face is grey and looks disfigured. He doesn't speak and appears rather calm. Satan is still sad*stic and punishes those who have sinned. However he is willing to let those go, who can redeem themselves and rectify their sins.
History[]
Since he is the ruler of Hell, Satan most likely is pulling the strings in what happens to Scarlet and the other explorers. He has control over demonic creatures and ghosts and is probably also responsible for the catacombs crumbling and blocking their path. Since the group has ventured to far into the catacombs and they have all sinned, Satan uses an illusion of a former friend of them to lure them even deeper.
On each Circle of Hell, that they pass through, one of them is attacked or killed by something relating to their sin. Hell also houses the Philosophers Stone, which is what the group is looking for.
After they steal it, everything becomes even more dangerous. Eventually the remaining friends find Satan sitting in his chair. They rush past him but are attacked again.
Scarlet returns the Stone and was thus redeemed. Satan likely approved of her and she was then shortly after to save her friends and escape with them to the surface.
