Here’s a guide to propane tank sizes so you’ll have an idea of what you may need.
100-pound propane tank:
This small tank is for when you only use propane in one appliance such as a range or fireplace and you don’t mind the inconvenience of bringing it to one of our locations to get it refilled. We typically do not fill this size on-site with our delivery trucks.
120-gallon propane tank:
If you use propane in one or two appliances, such as a range, fireplace, clothes dryer, tankless water heater this might be your tank.
250-gallon propane tank:
This tank could be used for whole-house heating for a small home, typically 1200 sq. feet or less. It is also used when you have multiple appliances other than home heat such as water heater, space heater, generator or fireplace.
325-gallon propane tank:
If you use propane to heat your home, this is the most common size tank used in our area. This is typically used for homes from 1500 to 2500 square feet.
500-gallon propane tank:
If your home is larger than 2500 square feet and you are using propane to heat your home, this is probably the tank you will be installing.
1,000-gallon (or larger) propane tank:
While this size is mostly used in commercial industrial and agricultural applications, it is also used at large estate homes that use propane for heating and several other uses like cooking, water heating, and pool and spa heating.
