I never had a baby shower with my first because it was in the midst of the pandemic (2021), my work at the time threw together a set of gifts for the baby. However with that said I never got to experience a true baby shower.
Now I'm wanting to plan a baby sprinkle, it could possibly be mashed into a birthday party too since my birthday falls 4 weeks before the baby is due. Would it be tacky to plan my own sprinkle or would it be less if I had it as more of a bbq/sprinkle/birthday party all in one at my house? My mom thinks it's tacky I want to throw my own together for myself, but we moved far from home, so it'd only be a few friends attending. I just want something since this will be my last baby. I'd only ask for gifts for the baby in the form of diapers/wipes, or would that be tacky in itself? I'm kind of lost with this, I just want to celebrate this baby before she's born with my coworkers and friends. I'm an over thinker, I just want to plan something fun.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this! We’re doing a bbq in June and asking that if anyone feels inclined to bring a gift we would appreciate diapers and wipes. (I did make an Amazon registry but only for the discount at the end lol) We’re not even making formal invitations for it, just sending out a mass text to friends and family.

@JessAmor718,
thank you for this! I'll def plan something now! We're finalizing our baby registry before we send it out as well!

It's your party, you can throw it if you want to! 😊 We did our own baby shower but it was also in 2021 during pandemic, we did a virtual shower over zoom which ended up being really fun.
This go around, I have a friend who really wants to plan a sprinkle, and I'm totally cool with letting her! It's going to be partially virtual as well as most of my other friends and family are in a different state, but I have some that will attend in person.
Ignore anyone who says silly things like "that's tacky". "Tacky" is an old word we can retire now as it's based on what other people think of you and not what you want. Since it doesn't matter what other people think, do your shower YOUR way.

I don’t think it’s tacky! You could call it a “Baby and Birthday Celebration” rather than a sprinkle if you are worried about sprinkle coming off as tacky! My sister and I threw a double sprinkle for ourselves because we didn’t get real showers with our firsts due to Covid also. Our family and friends were all about it!

Did friends and family still gift you things the first time? If they all bought u gifts, then I would just throw the party with no gifts…but just say I never got to have a shower so I’d like to have something, I think it’s totally reasonable. And if people never bought u gifts the first time then I think it’s ok to to have some things brought maybe a small registry, maybe diapers. I am generally very anti sprinkles and second showers but I mean you never had one in Covid so I think it’s totally a pass.

@agb0320,
I literally just had a swing set from my parents that was about it outside of the small basket I got from work. I never actually got to celebrate my baby because of Covid, I was gifted small things. I've had coworkers and friends asking if I'm having one, they're super excited. I wish I could've had something the first time, but Covid mad that hard.

Girl do you!! I think it’s completely fine to throw your own sprinkle. I threw my own gender reveal.

We’re throwing our own baby sprinkle! It’s a bbq on Memorial Day weekend and we’re inviting all of our friends and family. And they all RSVP’d “yes” already. Originally i wasn’t going to have one, but after we announced our pregnancy on Christmas, everyone started asking us immediately if we’ll be having a shower Do what you want! There are no “rules” anymore.
