January 2023 – The world's best family vacation is one step closer to its highly anticipated debut in January 2024. Royal Caribbean International's Icon of the Seas reached its next major construction milestone in December 2022.

On June 25, 2024, while berthed at Costa Maya Cruise Dock, the ship suffered an engine room fire. It occurred in the afternoon and caused a complete blackout (throughout the ship) due to power generation loss. The ship's firefighting teams managed to extinguish the fire quickly.
In fact, Royal Caribbean Group (RCL) CEO Jason Liberty even said on Icon of the Seas that Star of the Seas and the third unnamed Icon-class ship would not be bigger than the first ship in the series. That does not mean there won't be changes on the cruise line's next two Icon-class ships.
