Peppermint & chocolate were made for one another. We already love things like candy canes in hot chocolate during the holidays, so of course the rest of the year we love to continue that great flavor combo in bite-size snacks.

So when my mom & I had the idea to make our own peppermint patties we knew it would be amazing.

Homemade Peppermint Patties (3)

We often crave peppermint patties. They were a childhood favorite for my mom.

When she was a little girl it was an extra special treat to be surprised with a peppermint patty from my grandmother. It was something special that they shared together, so of course, now that means they bring back so many wonderful memories of good times with her.

But we can’t always have them on hand right at the time a craving sets in. But what we do have almost all the time is the ingredients to make them ourselves, which is exactly what we did.

Did I mention that they are super easy to make? They are, with just 3 ingredients for the inside & 2 ingredients for the chocolate coating.

These will definitely go down as a top family favorite. YUM!

Here are some commonly asked questions

Can I make this recipe with peppermint extract instead?

I suppose you could- however it’s not quite the same & they won’t have the same bold peppermint patty flavor as you get with the candy flavoring. That is essential for giving these that classic flavor that we know so well.

What is the best way to store leftover peppermint patties?

The easiest way is to place in a large airtight container & store in the refrigerator. I like a large plastic bowl with a lid or a zip-top bag works great too.

Homemade Peppermint Patties (6)

How many can this serve?

This recipe makes about 50 patties, depending on how large you make them. Feel free to cut this recipe in half if you want a smaller batch.

Can this recipe be doubled?

Yes, you can double this recipe – yielding about 100 patties. That option would be perfect for a class or office party or giving as gifts during the holidays.

Why do I have to chill the filling?

This is REALLY important. Chilling the filling makes it easier because the mixture is less sticky & helps it to hold the shape during the coating process.

I’m assuming you had the flavoring with the sweetened condensed milk?

My apologies Angela, I have updated the recipe. It’s added when adding the remaining confectioners sugar.

I’m having a difficult time finding the peppermint flavouring you suggest. It is not available at LorAnn Oils. Ones are saw: some have alcohol in them, some have oils that ruin the tastes, some are extracts – so confusing. What would you suggest & where can I get it? I really want to try these peppermint patties!
    Thanks, CC

It is showing available there in a multitude of options & ready for shipping.

      Enjoy!
