"It was not for the faint-hearted," Jordan reflects, "and unfortunately, we were very much faint-hearted!"

The couple's initial six months on-site were a test of their resolve. They showered outside and cooked on a Bunsen burner, gutting the three-bedroom house room by room. "It was a nearly three-year slog dressed up as a 'fun little project,'" Jordan recalls. "Renovating together has tested us, but it’s also made us a much better team."
Dane, the more practical of the pair, took up woodworking lessons, while Jordan, with his marketing background, documented their journey on social media under the moniker Home Husbands. Their main bedroom transformation video went viral, amassing 1 million views and propelling them into the spotlight. "I usually dream up the big, dramatic, slightly unhinged vision, and Dane figures out how to actually make it happen without the house collapsing," Jordan explains.
A Budgeted Adventure
The couple's renovation journey was characterized by a creative approach to budgeting. They sourced materials from thrift shops and Facebook Marketplace, scoring an entire kitchen for just $4,000. "We love a Marketplace spiral at 11 p.m.," Jordan jokes. "Our second-hand kitchen still feels like one of our proudest wins."
Despite their frugal approach, the project cost them close to $150,000. "We didn’t have a set budget, which is probably both brave and deeply silly," Jordan admits. "We think we spent close to $150,000 all up. Outside of the boring but necessary things, we were actually quite smart with where we invested."
A Moody Maximalist Dream Home
The house transformed into a "moody maximalist" haven, with dark greens, deep reds, antiques, and old-world detailing. "Rooms that feel like they might tell you a secret if you sit in them long enough," Jordan describes. Their unique aesthetic, a blend of drama and personal style, endeared them to a growing online following.

"It almost feels like having a giant design team making decisions with you, except some of them are yelling in the comments," Jordan notes. "We have a huge project planned in a different city, but we can’t give too much away just yet," Jordan teases. "Also – a very important detail – we can only afford it if this house sells. So, spiritually and financially, the next chapter is pending."
