Use the below table to help you choose the correct size shoes for your child.

To measure your child's feet simply follow the instructions below for each foot and make your size selection using the measurement of the longest foot.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR FOOT:

Place your foot on a flat surface with your heel against a straight edge. Place a ruler beside your foot touching the straight edge your heel is also touching, then take the length in centimetres (Cmfrom the tip of your longest toe to your heel. Please be aware that your longest toe may not always be your big toe.

Fitting at home tips:

Check your child’s current shoe size (also Width if any) and take note of this. Put the shoes on - check if the shoes have no room around the back, top, and sides. If this is so, you will need a whole size up from the current shoe size. To double check and to re-assure yourself that you are ordering the correct size, compare your size directly with our shoe size chart and measure your foot length correctly by following the above instructions.

FAQs

What to do if you bought shoes too big? ›

Shrink Shoes with Water

The process is simple: wet the shoes, if leather use spray, else if canvas, dip them in a bucket of water for an hour. Then either dry them using a hairdryer or dry them in the sun (hair dryer for leather shoes please). After drying, try them out.

Are shoes supposed to be tight at first? ›

Perfect-fitting shoes should feel snug, but not too tight or too loose. It's normal to get a few blisters during the breaking-in stage.

Is it better to size up or down in shoes? ›

There should be just enough space for your finger to fit nice and snugly. If your finger slides in easily with space to spare, you should probably go down a half size, while if it's a tight squeeze, go up half a size.

Is it OK to wear one size bigger shoes? ›

As we all know, if you wear a shoe that is too tight it will hurt your feet and lead to foot ailments, such as blisters, bunions and calluses. But wearing a shoe that is too big will cause us to walk in an unnatural and dysfunctional way. This can lead to serious foot problems.

Is it bad to wear shoes a half size too big? ›

Is It Better to Wear a Shoe Half Size Bigger or Smaller? The answer depends on the circ*mstances, the type of shoe, and your purpose. If a woman is buying a pair of court or dress shoes, half a size too big could make it quite difficult to walk as the shoe will slip. A loose fit could put you at risk for injury.

Should your toes touch the end of your shoes when walking? ›

As a rule of thumb (or toe), you should have about 3/8″ to 1/2″ of room from the tip of your longest toe to the end of the shoe. Your big toe is not automatically your longest toe.

Is it bad if your toes touch the end of your shoes? ›

➡️ When I walk, my toes are touching the front of the shoe. What does that mean? That means you need a pair of shoes that's one size larger. In a healthy shoe, the foot expands and contracts with each step, and that's why the extra space is important – this room in front of your toes allows for free movement.

Does 0.5 shoe size make a difference? ›

Usually a half size is not enough to make a shoe uncomfortably too large. I also find that when I buy sneakers with a Gore-Tex membrane they often run snug and an extra half size makes a big difference in comfort. Just try them on. That's the best way to be sure.

Can a size 8.5 fit a 9? ›

It is possible to fit into a size 8.5 shoe if you are a size 9, but it may be uncomfortable.

Is it better for shoes to be slightly too big or too small? ›

Heel discomfort is a common indicator of shoes that are too big. If your heels consistently rub against the back of the shoe, it could lead to painful blisters. Remember, your shoes should be snug but not uncomfortably tight.

How much space is too much in shoes? ›

Stand up and make sure there is 3/8" or 1/2" (about the width of your finger) between your longest toe (usually the second toe) and the end of the shoe. Always stand and walk around in the shoes to see if they are comfortable, fit well, and don't chafe or rub anywhere.

What age do feet stop growing? ›

Your feet usually stop growing a few years after puberty, typically around 14 for girls and 16 for boys. However, the final closure of growth plates in the feet doesn't occur until 18-20 years of age, so your feet will still continue to grow until then.

Should your pinky toe touch the side of your shoe? ›

Also, make sure your toes fit inside the toe box, the area that contains the front of your foot. It's okay if your pinky toes touch the side of the shoe, but they shouldn't feel smushed or push out the mesh. You can try a larger size, but it might be that the style just isn't right for you.

Is it okay to buy shoes that are too big? ›

And, while quickly running into the shoe store to grab your size may be more convenient than wasting time trying multiple pairs on, you may be hurting yourself in the long run. Wearing shoes that are too big or too small can cause a variety of health problems including issues like blisters and bunions.
