Disney World Facing Massive Boycott Following Latest Incident (2024)

Guests have gone viral after sharing that they are boycotting Disney World.

Walt Disney World Resort is known as “The Most Magical Place on Earth.” However, this particular situation may make Guests think otherwise. Disney World is home to four theme parks: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Walt Disney World also includes two water parks, Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. Each Disney Park includes something for Guests of all ages and sizes to experience the Disney magic.

Guests bringing smaller children to Disney World can have them dress as their favorite characters. During their day at the Parks, Guests can spot several princesses, princes, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and more characters. Sadly, older Guests heading to Disney World cannot wear specific clothing that looks like princess dresses or characters. Older Guests can do something called “Disney bounding,” which is when they dress like a certain character, like Minnie Mouse, with something like polka dot pants and a black shirt with a large bow to resemble Minnie Mouse. But, the key to Disney Bounding is ensuring that they do not actually imitate the character.

In a viral TikTok, one mother is now boycotting Disney World after a situation that happened while on their Disney vacation. @Starbornlove was at EPCOT when Disney security and managers surrounded this Guest and her family. Disney Cast Members were telling Guests that her son was in violation of Disney guidelines. Her autistic son was dressing like Mario, and he is 14 years old, “having the time of his life.” However, Disney said that they were breaking the rules because other Guests were taking photos with him.

To end this video, a fan talked about this situation agreeing and disagreeing with this Disney Guest. Saying they should let their child have the time of his life and dress up. However, it is breaking rules when Guests of a certain age and only supposed to dress up during special events.

Disney World reserves the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that is considered inappropriate or attire that could detract from the experience of other Guests. Attire that is not appropriate for the theme parks—and which may result in refusal of admittance—includes but is not limited to:

  • Costumes and costume masks, which may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older.
  • Clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics
  • Excessively torn clothing
  • Clothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment
  • Clothing that touches or drags on the ground
  • Clothing with multiple layers is subject to search upon entry
  • Objectionable tattoos

Disney World suggests Guests dress comfortably, wear good walking shoes and check the local weather report before they leave for the parks at Walt Disney World Resort.

Have you had an experience like this while at Disney Parks? Do you think this Guest was wrong or right?
