Cloud Computing encompasses three primary categories: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS).

  1. IaaS serves as the foundational layer of cloud computing, offering access to core components of cloud IT, including networking capabilities, virtual or dedicated hardware, and storage space. IaaS delivers the highest degree of flexibility and enables extensive control over IT resources. Notable examples include Amazon EC2 (within AWS), GCP, Azure, Rackspace, Digital Ocean, and Linode.
  2. PaaS eliminates the requirement to oversee the underlying infrastructure, typically encompassing hardware and operating systems, enabling a singular focus on deploying and managing applications. This approach alleviates concerns related to resource-procurement, capacity planning, software maintenance, patching, and other operational tasks involved in application management. Prominent PaaS offerings include Elastic Beanstalk (part of AWS), Heroku, Google App Engine (GCP), and Windows Azure (Microsoft).
  3. SaaS offers complete software products managed by the service provider, sparing users from concerns about service maintenance or infrastructure management. Instead, users concentrate solely on utilizing the specific software provided. Leading examples of SaaS offerings encompass Amazon Rekognition, Google Apps (including Gmail), Dropbox, and Zoom.
