You can change your preferred language in Chrome. Chrome can also translate pages for you.
Translate webpages in Chrome
When you come across a page written in a language you don't understand, you can use Chrome to translate the page.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Chrome .
- Go to a webpage written in another language.
- At the top, select the language you want to translate to.
- To change the default language, tap Settings More languages and select the language.
- Chrome will translate the webpage this one time.
- To always translate pages in this language, tap Settings Always translate [language].
Request translation in Chrome
If you don’t find Translate at the top of a page, you can request a translation.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Chrome .
- Tap More Translate.
If Chrome doesn't offer to translate, try refreshing the webpage. If you still can't tapTranslate, the language might not be available for translation.
To translate text:
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Chrome .
- Go to a web page written in another language.
- Highlight the text that you want to translate.
- Tap Google Translate.
- To play back text in a text-to-speech supported language, tap Speak .
Tip: If more than 5,000 characters are highlighted, you can select Translate Full Page.
To change the languages:
- Tap the language that you want to change.
- Scroll to find the language you want or enter it in the search bar.
- Tap the language.
Change your default translation settings
By default, Chrome offers to translate pages written in a language you don't understand.
Turn off translation
You can control whether Chrome will offer to translate webpages.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chrome app .
- Tap More Settings .
- Tap Languages.
- Turn off Translate Pages.
Add all the languages you know
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chrome app .
- Tap More Settings .
- Tap Languages.
- Tap Add Language.
- Tap the language you know or want to translate. Websites in multiple languages will display in the first language available according to your preferences.
If you chose to "Never translate" a language, it will appear here.
Tip: If you want to translate a language from your list, tap the language and select Offer to translate.
Undo "always translate" a language
If you chose to always translate a language, you can undo your translation preferences.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chrome app .
- Go to a webpage written in that language. The page will start translating automatically.
- At the top, tap Never translate [language].
