In December of last year, I got the opportunity to take an East End London food tour with Eating Europe.

Food tours are always my absolute favourite thing to do when visiting a city, as you can really find out a lot about a place through food.

East London is my favourite part of the city; so East End food tours are right up my street!

The East End is so culturally diverse; you get such an abundance of different food, style and people.

But it wasn’t always the trendiest part of London.

East London was once considered the worst and roughest part of the city. It wasn’t even featured on the map of London at one point in history!

Nowadays though you will find the most unique and trendiest markets here along with an abundance of diverse and delicious food!

My London food tour of in the east of the capital started in the Old Spitalfields Market where I met my guide for the day.

From there, together we embarked on one of the best London food tours I’ve ever experienced.

Here are all the delicious foods we tasted along the way on this amazing London food tour!

🧳 MUST-HAVE: Before you head out on your trip, make sure you have travel insurance. My #1 recommendation is SafetyWing!

Enjoy These Delicious London Food Tour Dishes!

1. A Bacon Sandwich at St John Bread and Wine

After our introductions, we started our London food crawl in full force by trying an English favourite – the bacon sarnie (another word for sandwich).

What I loved about this restaurant is every part of the sandwich is made by them (except the bacon).

They bake their own bread and even make their own tomato sauce that goes in the sandwich!Absolutely delicious.

2. Bread and Butter Pudding at the English Restaurant

Next was something sweet and another English classic: bread and butter pudding. The perfect way to start the day in my eyes – and Eating Europe tours clearly agree!

This classic English pub was built in the 17th century so this place was a great introduction to the character that goes into a pub.

3. English Cheese at the House of Androuet

When people think of London culinary tours, they can probably imagine a few dishes that will definitely make an appearance.

But cheese is almost never high up on their East London food checklist. Which is a shame, because what many people don’t realise is that England has some amazing cheeses.

We tried the classic Cheddar and my personal favourite, Blue Stilton. This busy little establishment sells the very best cheeses.

4. Fish and Chips (+ Mushy Peas!) at Poppies

No London culinary tour would be complete without this traditional staple of the English diet.

Poppies is a famous restaurant in East London which sells THE very best fish and chips. This great restaurant has won multiple awards for the English classic.

They even wrap their fish and chips in newspaper, but not to worry – Poppies created their own newspaper that uses edible ink, so you don’t have to worry about ink poisoning.

The restaurant recreates a classic seaside fish and chip shop with its décor, decoration and even work uniforms!

6. Curry at Aladin

Plenty of great England food tours include a stop at a curry house, and fortunately, Brick Lane is world-famous for its curry houses – the streets are lined with them!

In the late 20th century, many Bangladeshis moved into East London and made Brick Lane what it’s famous for today: its abundance of good curries!

We tried 3 different curries at Aladin’s, they were all very delicious and the service was great.Aladin has even been praised by King Charles III!

7. Salt Beef Bagel at Beigel Bake

This was my personal favourite: salted beef bagel with English mustard and a gherkin!

This Jewish Bakery even runs 24/7, which is quite impressive as it’s ALWAYS busy! The beef just melts in your mouth and with the fresh bagel, it’s a match made in heaven.

It’s one of the best Eating Europe food tours dishes in my opinion!

8. Salted Caramel Tart at Pizza East

Of course all the best london gourmet tours finish with a dessert to remember, and we finished our tour at Pizza East where we had a salted caramel tart.

This was a fantastic way to end the tour – the tart just melted in my mouth! It’s the perfect option for someone with a sweet tooth.

I have to say the tart was probably my second favourite food of the London food tour.

Learning the History Along the Way

What I really loved about my Eating London food tours experience was not only the food (of course), but how the guide also told us about the history of the place.

We stopped along the way at some historic parts of East London, so it was like a London historic tour and a London food tour all wrapped into one.

I cannot recommend London food tours by Eating Europe enough!
