Cream of chicken soup recipes are simple recipes to add to your rotation of meals. You will find a wide range of recipes that you can use cream of chicken soup with so you aren’t going to get bored anytime soon.
Cream of chicken soup can come in that classic Campbell’s can or even homemade, either way, it’s delicious as the base of many recipes. I tend to like to make homemade cream of chicken soup, that recipe is coming soon, but I’ve also bought natural cream of chicken soup to use.
What is Cream of Chicken Soup Made of?
Before we get to the recipes, what is cream of chicken soup? While made in slightly different ways it’s generally a soup made with chicken, celery, chicken stock, and seasonings cooked in cream or milk.
The version we often think about is Campbell’s cream of chicken soup which first made it onto grocery shelves in 1947. It likely started to be used as the base of recipes soon after, I’ve seen advertised recipes from the 1950s and 1960s.
Can I use cream of chicken soup instead of cream of mushroom soup?
Yes, you can! Cream of mushroom is another soup often used in recipes. I happen to be allergic to mushrooms so something I have found myself doing often is substituting cream of chicken soup for cream of mushroom soup.
You can also use cream of mushroom instead of cream of chicken if you perfect it. Both are very similar so they work in most of the same dishes.
Can you eat cream of chicken as a soup?
Sure! Many people enjoy cream of chicken just warmed as a soup. You can also add some pieces of chicken, veggies, seasonings, or cheese to add more flavor to the soup without a lot of effort.
However, if you find cream of chicken soup boring or don’t feel like soup there are so many great ways to use it. Below are some fun ways to use a can of cream of chicken soup or your own homemade version.
